Methane pyrolysis technology leverages KBR’s world-class technology licensing and engineering expertise to deliver Hazer®’s patented methane pyrolysis technology. Strategically relevant to KBR’s broader energy transition technology suite, this technology is part of KBR’s hydrogen-to-energy vector alongside other decarbonization technologies.

The process enables the production of low-emission hydrogen and synthetic graphite from methane (natural gas or biogas) using iron ore as a process catalyst. This is a form of methane pyrolysis, often referred to as “turquoise hydrogen” production, that is differentiated from other methane pyrolysis technologies with its low-cost iron ore catalyst, scalable fluid bed reactor and graphite co-product, providing a low cost, clean hydrogen alternative to the market.
