Defence Nuclear

KBR and Frazer-Nash are leaders in nuclear defence expertise, supporting the UK’s current and future nuclear submarine capabilities. Our record encompasses the delivery, assurance, and ongoing resilience of critical infrastructure, with a focus on safety, reliability, and continuous technological advancement.

Our work

NTSP – Clyde Infrastructure (KAD Consortium)

Client‑side programme and project delivery for critical naval infrastructure

• P3M, commercial, estimating, planning, controls and information management for high‑hazard upgrades at HMNB Clyde. • Delivered via KAD with a scalable nuclear workforce. • Framework supports wider Royal Navy and Defence nuclear infrastructure needs.

SSNA – submarine safety and environmental assurance

Coherent SEMS and early hazard design for future SSN‑A class

• 35+ years’ submarine safety domain knowledge applied to influence design and risk management. • Line‑of‑sight from policy to process across operational scenarios. • Supports safe entry‑into‑service and through‑life assurance.

Reactor technical authority support (Rolls‑Royce, CASP)

Design, assurance and in‑service support to submarine nuclear reactors

• Tier‑1 strategic partner under qualifying sub‑contract to RRSL’s Unity contract with MOD. • MBSE and systems engineering improve integration, traceability and technical planning. • Contributes to Continuous‑at‑Sea Deterrence (CASD).

Devonport & Clyde infrastructure support

Life‑extension, compliance and master planning across naval bases

• Addresses complex dock upgrades and asset life extensions with safety case advisory. • Master‑planning/optioneering for evolving operations, people and equipment flows. • Readiness for new dock systems and utilities modernisation.

Floating dry docks for Clyde – Programme Euston

Additional Fleet Time Docking Capability in support of CASD and UK CarrierStrike

• Comprises multiple Floating Docks and all associated Base Infrastructure works. • Definition of docking facilities and associated landside infrastructure. • Developing safety cases to enable deployment and operational use. • Supports availability and resilience of nuclear assets.

AWE Future Materials Campus (FMC) – Programme initiation

Unified KBR/Frazer‑Nash team delivering specialist nuclear programme support

• Supporting nuclear compliance, supporting the development of an assurance capability as well as operational readiness planning of this multi £BN capital programme.

Maintaining the UK’s continuous-at-sea deterrent

Contributing to submarine design, build and support

• Providing BAE Systems with embedded consultancy and specialist support across major submarine programmes • Develop and implement engineering processes that embed systems engineering into the design and build of next-generation submarines • Supporting transformation to a more consistent model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach to improve design integration, requirements traceability, interface management and technical planning.

Sellafield Programme & Project Partners (PPP)

Integration partner for multi‑billion decommissioning portfolio

• Lot 1 Integration: EHSSQ, commercial/supply chain, programme controls, digital and people services. • Coordinates partners to improve certainty/performance, logistics and stakeholder management. • Long‑term alliance (2019–2039) with national impact.

Defence Nuclear Data Centre (DNDC)

Secure by Design information engineering for the SDA

• Incorporating AI techniques, PQC and information governance into technical procedures and portfolio services. • Embedded with Babcock to evolve the MOD computer estate under stringent security assurance. • Improves knowledge management and programme/project discipline.
