Air & Space
Our contributions to UK air and space defence include transformative support for RAF infrastructure, training, and digital assurance. We integrate autonomous technologies, such as the Iron Stallion system for space domain awareness, and deliver advanced pilot training through initiatives like Affinity Flying Training Services.
Our work
Affinity Flying Training Services (UKMFTS)
Modern training pipeline delivering >22,000 flying hours p.a.
• Aircraft services across 3 platforms at RAF Cranwell, Barkston Heath and Valley under long‑term partnership. • CAA‑regulated maintenance and reliability engineering with OEM partnerships. • Ensures rapid, effective progression of pilots to the front line.
Airworthiness and safety assurance
Independent audits and safety artefacts across military fleets
• Safety cases, HAZID and regulatory compliance for P‑8A, Chinook, Airseeker, Merlin Mk4, FsAST and weapons certification. • Lifecycle safety support from design through operations for aircraft, mission systems and support equipment. • Underpins fleet availability and certification confidence.
Cyber security for airworthiness
Protecting safety‑critical avionics from cyber threats
• Cyber resilience across 12 platforms including Chinook, Merlin, Wildcat and P‑8A. • Combines security, aviation design and assurance to demonstrate regulatory compliance. • Supports type certification and secure change management.
CAwPACT – Continuing Airworthiness coherence tool
Standardising CAMO practices and regulatory compliance
• Gives clear line‑of‑sight to all mandated CAw requirements across fleets. • Improves safety reporting and recognisable processes for effectiveness. • Supports enterprise‑level governance and audits.
GCAP / Next‑Generation Combat Air support
Multi‑disciplinary consultancy on the UK’s largest Air Domain programme
• Systems and enterprise architecting, aerospace engineering and integration at scale. • Collaboration with international partners to accelerate capability evolution. • Model‑based approaches embedded to manage complexity.
UAS autonomy containment (CURBER with Blue Bear)
Proving safety containment and intra‑swarm deconfliction
• Flight demonstrations integrating autonomy containment to enable safe RAF UAS operations. • Matures regulatory confidence for autonomous capability. • Read‑across into wider air and joint operations.
Space Domain Awareness – Iron Stallion / JCO Meridian
Operational multi‑domain awareness for UK Space Command
• Integrating Iron Stallion and delivering updates to reach Full Operating Capability. • Enabled participation in multinational space exercises and ongoing mission support. • Provides persistent orbital threat awareness for allied operations.
INVICTUS – hypersonic, hydrogen‑fuelled, precooled propulsion
Flight vehicle concept to Mach 5 by early 2031
• Concept and preliminary design of a reusable, runway‑launched air‑breathing system. • Defines requirements, analysis and programme path to first flight with dual‑use potential. • Advances UK leadership in high‑speed air and near‑space access.
Space based solar power (SBSP) as a critical national infrastructure
Mitigating the security implications of SBSP
• Researching the potential threats for a SBSP system and possible mitigations alongside geopolitical and societal considerations. • Ten key recommendations have been made for incorporating security and risk mitigation strategies in solar power satellites.
