Did You Know?
KBR assists the U.S. Government in key healthcare technology efforts, including specialized needs during the pandemic to develop critical COVID-19 databases.
Enterprise IT Management
When it comes to managing large, complex, and data-rich enterprise IT environments, KBR provides full lifecycle services with a focus on agile processes and early testing in the development phase to infuse quality and cybersecurity, minimize the cost of rework, and allow for continuous system integration. In one example, KBR successfully migrated 124 applications from a NASA on-premises data center to the AWS cloud in approximately one year.
Smart Modernization
KBR evaluates each customer’s application-specific needs using the “7 Rs” of migration – Rehost, Relocate, Replatform, Refactor, Repurchase, Retire, and Retain. KBR's resilient approach to modernization eliminates compute waste, optimizes storage, increases reliability, lowers latency, and enhances security while using cloud-native features like containerization and microservices to achieve operational efficiency and long-term cost savings.
Cybersecurity
KBR provides cybersecurity and information assurance services to its customers using an integrated security framework that enhances security posture, protects data and operations, and mitigates security vulnerabilities in dynamic threat environments while respecting cost and schedule constraints. KBR leverages its novel DevSecOps methodology and mature, IT infrastructure library-aligned processes to provide systems with advanced digital protections and timely end-user support.
Advanced Data Analytics
KBR uses advanced data analytics to provide capabilities for predictive analytics, knowledge discovery, data virtualization, descriptive analytics, and diagnostic analytics. KBR specifically supports federal agencies with HIPAA-compliant and advanced cloud-based data analytics platforms to integrate and harmonize disparate data sets and enable machine learning and visualization of complex collections of data.
Database Solutioning
KBR has extensive experience working with federal agencies to support modernization programs with architecture resilience, including the optimization of relational databases and migrating self-hosted database management systems (DBMS) to cloud-native DBMS like AWS Relational Database Service and Azure SQL Database. KBR’s expertise also blends structured and unstructured databases to enhance operational efficiency and security.
Data Visualization
KBR provides customers and decision-makers with the tools to analyze, model, and visualize complex high-dimensional data so users can grasp difficult concepts or quickly identify new patterns. In one example, KBR integrated biomedical data about drugs, small molecules, and protein pathways with DoD-derived research data sets to create a knowledge graph that helped identify FDA-approved drugs to address the biomedical impacts of high-altitude flight.
Did You Know?
KBR uses ARDIS to aid federal researchers with en route care and provide its expeditionary medicine program with data analytics and Aeromedical Evacuation Registry enhancements, totaling nearly 300K records over 18 years.
Agile Research and Development Integrated Systems (ARDIS)
KBR created a unique solution suited to bioinformatics and computational biosciences activities called the Agile Research and Development Integrated Systems (ARDIS). ARDIS is a cutting-edge, government-approved cloud infrastructure, built upon Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud. The secure and scalable solution provides a vendor-agnostic and enterprise-level platform offering end-to-end data consumption, rapid application hosting, data science, and ML / AI modeling and simulation support. Programs ARDIS has directly supported include the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Tech Connect, AFRL COVID-19 Dashboard, the Aeromedical Evacuation Registry, and overall airman readiness medical research.

IMPALA allows users to search and find astronaut health data across over 15 data systems through a single data catalog interface.
Information Management Platform for Analytics and Aggregation (IMPALA)
KBR’s full-stack data analytics platform named Information Management Platform for Analytics and Aggregation (IMPALA) allows for both on-premises utilization and in the AWS GovCloud. IMPALA correlates, aggregates, creates, and shares datasets from multiple data stores for analysis by internal and external scientists and reuses these datasets for future data requests. It provides advanced analytics capabilities to perform data mining, data exploration, and discovery that retain metadata on analyses and uses of the data by all users. IMPALA allows users to search and find astronaut health data across over 15 data systems through a single data catalog interface.
Service Personnel Advancing Research in Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (SPARC)
KBR recently joined forces with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine to support neuroscience research for service members, specifically focusing on those affected by traumatic brain injuries. Research is proudly done in collaboration with Uniformed Services University (the nation's only federal health sciences university) and the University of California San Francisco. Through this endeavor, KBR provides outreach, education and data analytics in support of this critical neuroscience research for the prevention and treatment of military members with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
